Integrate, stand alone or ignore Solar Power

Not since the pink batts gold rush under the confused leadership of the Environment Minister Peter Garrett has there been so much difficulty to choose a solar PV supplier to get the best quality solar installation with longevity of the product, adequate back up with businesses flying in the night on systems that would have to last a decade to pay their way or even deliver a substantial contribution to countering climate change. So do I stand alone or sell back to the grid? Amongst many sincere installers I hear horror stories that only get worse when systems fail and the installer is no longer to be found. As consumers are we expected to understand fully? I have just had a state of the art solar hot water system operating totally on the gas booster for months if not years due to lack of follow up servicing. Perhaps mandatory regular servicing of all installed systems is the way forward?
